Leave of Absinthe!

9 02 2009

I’ll be out of town this week, so no updates from me!

Nerd Out.

Mistryza: Do you need anymore Malachite?
Guiva: Nope, and I don’t need any Zoysite either.

“Acceptance.”

Second part to the story.

I’ve decided to name the story “Acceptance”, which has much to do with stuff later on.

Mr. Pencil.

Completely off topic, but this is probably the creepiest/coolest short I have ever seen.  I like the underlying message a lot.

Story Update.

After being promoted to Elder, Guiva encounters a surprising situation in the Exodar!

Around the Target Dummy.

1 02 2009

I’ve found that the Target Dummy is the unofficial water cooler of World of Warcraft.  If you stand there long enough you’re bound to hear someone say something stupid.  In my defense, this time I was just practicing a new DPS rotation when two paladins rode up and decided they wanted to figure out how to improve.

The following is my animated depiction of what occurred:

I think as I see more of these, I’ll add in more.  Also, the first incident could be considered this, but I didn’t animate it back then.

Dedicated People Succeed.

29 01 2009

Alright, this has been a post that was pinging around in my head for awhile, but I couldn’t find time to put it all down on paper (blame the writing bug for that one).  I’d like to note that the initial thought was to make the post “Talented People Succeed”, but then I remembered this guy and decided it’d be too ironic if I were to say that.  So instead, we’ll stick with DPS.

The reason that I’m making this post is because of something I read in a post on Big Red Kitty.  The thread itself was about BRK deciding to go Survival over Beast Mastery, which unleashed a torrent of surprisingly angry hunters.   In it BRK was pretty much called every name under the son except for a Child of Throm.  I guess I can understand that someone whose moniker comes from a talent in Beast Mastery might have have some fans that have “Beast Mastery” tattoed onto the small of their backs, but this was basically a retelling of Benedict Arnold as far as some people went.   I’ll admit that I think of BRK kind of like Tappy Tibbons from Requiem for a Dream; he makes dummies sit around and do nothing because he’s figured everything out for them, but… well, I guess it backfired the moment he switched specs!  Well, partially backfired.  Because many of the angry people were proud to admit that they were mouthbreathers, BRK could just walk around fire and watch them all burn as they stood in it.  It was not until I came to a particular gem though, that my jaw dropped.

Realizing Your Own Strength.

28 01 2009

I was looking at BRK’s latest post and was surprised to find that despite his being SV and his guild’s top DPS in a 25-man, Vanguard was able to do the same encounter except for all of our DPSers had higher DPS, despite the fact we had less people (9 people total, thus less buffs) and our fight actually went longer (3′44 vs 7′55).  I guess that you don’t realize how good you are at something until you see someone else performing the same task with lower results.

The Legend of Qianmei.

27 01 2009

A story I’ve been working on.  I don’t know if anyone’d read it one way or the other, but I’ve had a bit of fun writing it and it’s helped remove my writer’s block.  This story follows the life of a girl named Qianmei in a turbulent time in a fictional land not too dissimilar from China.  If you’re a fan of the Three Kingdoms series or Water Margin, I tried to capture the essence of that writing in some regards but also transfused my own ideas and rationals so it isn’t going to be that much of a match up.  Nevertheless, if anyone out there does read it, I hope it’s enjoyable.

It’s Always Best to…

25 01 2009

elderRespect Your Elders!

After a day of doing the achievements, Guiva now has a new hairstyle and a new title!  I rather like both, myself, but I suppose we’ll see if the hairstyle sticks around or not.

Deep down, I am still an RPer I think.  I didn’t even think of doing this for the violet proto-drake, I just saw “Elder” and figured it’d be fitting for a senior shaman.  Oh well, don’t tell anyone and we’ll all be okay.
